During my high school years, I worked at an upscale fitness facility as part of the concierge team. (This was basically a glorified term for being a front desk attendant) I loved the job as I got to interact with a wide variety of people everyday, all with different fitness goals and motivations for coming. Whether I was whipping up protein shakes, handing out cool towels after a hot yoga class, or helping rerack weights, I took great pride in my job.

That pride paid dividends quickly, as I was named Employee of the Month during my first month of employment thanks to a number of member compliments on my service and attention to detail. I then went on to be the youngest shift lead ever named at the Waterloo location, where I was tasked with the responsibility of dealing with closure of the gym on a nightly basis. I attribute much of my ability to talk with customers and interact with various parties with my experiences that I gained during my employment. I also gained some great smoothie and protein shake recipes!

Coffee Crisp

  • 12oz chocolate milk
  • 1 scoop of cappuccino flavoured protein powder
  • 4-5 ice cubes
  • Scoop of frozen yogurt


  • 12oz tropical juice
  • 1 scoop of banana protein
  • 1/2 cup of frozen mangoes
  • 1/2 cup of frozen strawberries

Black Forest

  • 12oz berry juice
  • 1 scoop of chocolate protein
  • 1 cup of raspberries (can also substitute for blueberries or strawberries)
